Positive Alternative in Canadian Politics
25 May, 2008
Comedian Rick Mercer sums it up well: “They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Tragically, that’s also the definition of politics in Canada.”
Perhaps it’s time for Canadians to leave behind their cynicism and apathy about politicians, and their belief that the two old parties are the only way to go; perhaps they should check out the innovative ideas of the NDP, where they may find refreshing new policies to deal with our country’s current issues. Perhaps they should direct their votes to the party with the best policies; even if the incumbent from one of the old parties is not unseated, at least an increase in votes for another party’s candidate will send a message that people want better governance. After all, it was the greatest of all Canadians, Tommy Douglas of the NDP, who was instrumental in bringing about medicare and the old age pension, even though his party was never in power.
