Equus
Equestrian Center offers children and young adults
amazing opportunities to explore nature and horses. We strive
to provide our campers with the best education possible in a
diversity of disciplines, and an unforgettable social and
creative opportunity. Our programs offer a unique composite of
activities specializing in the sport of riding and equine
management. Environmental appreciation is stressed and as
awareness of the broader challenges facing the global
environment are integrated into our camp activities. Our
enthusiastic and professional staff ensure security and
comfort for each camper. Our high staff to camper ratio
increases the safety and educational benefits at camp, in a
“fun” and cheerful environment. High safety standards are
rigorously enforced, and the use of appropriate sports
equipment is a necessity. Activities Staff are carefully
selected and are professionals in the sport they are
instructing. It is policy at Equus
that all staff has current first aid certification.
Camp Equus is a member of the
“Ontario
Camping Association” in Canada and is inspected
annually to ensure that O.C.A.
standards are upheld. |
| Aside from the
centers complete equestrian facilities, additional camp
facilities come alive during the summer months. Our
residential campers bunk in cabins and large tents with raised
wood flooring. Assigned councilors ensure comfort and security
for everyone. Meals are served in the dinning hall, which is
located beside the main building. Easy access to the newly to
the newly renovated camp kitchen makes freshly prepared meals
easy to serve. The infirmary and the camp office are based out
of the main building – where medical staff is available
hourly. Campers call this site the “Tajmahal”! Campers and
staff meet frequently at the “council hall”, an authentic tipi
made from natural and traditional materials. Our large spring
fed pond is a great place to cool off after riding, during
“free swim” and “free time”. At the pond house studio campers
can indulge in art making in their spare time. Campers may
also use this site during certain art work shops. |
The
Equus grounds are scattered with
several differen t
types of farm animals, each with
it’s own job. Although the facility is equestrian based,
campers will interact with sheep. Llama’s, poultry, bunnies, dogs
and cats to name just a few. The llamas are kept to protect
our sheep and miniature horses from predators, but their
fibers can be used as well. Campers may choose to learn about
cleaning, carting and spinning fleece into wool. Our llama’s
love to join in on our hiking trips. We use them for on
property and off property “packing”. All of our animals are
friendly and love human attention. We encourage our campers to
ask questions and to absorb as much as possible while at camp.
Campers are sure to have the ultimate summer camp experience
at Equus! |
